App UI Design

Slept is an app that accompanies users while they sleep. It plays calming sounds or music from a large library of soundscapes made by a mix of audio engineers and public creators.

The target user base for this project consists of every age group. The main requirements were to get users into a tranquil mood from opening the app through to playing tracks. Navigation needed to be easily understandable and familiar to users.

Sketch

The main issue surrounding sleep accompanying apps is difficulty navigating out of a playing track after a phone has gone into standby mode. I looked to fix this with a Lock Screen takeover solution.

Login Screens

The welcome screens are designed to feel fairly familiar to users with a straightforward fill out form with two fields, username and password. Backgrounds feature calming, atmospheric imagery.

Navigation Menus

Every section of the app is reachable from the tab bar located at the bottom of the screen. Four tabs for home, timer, profile and settings.

Pre-Play Screens

After selecting a track from the home menu users are given a pre-track screen with information about the track as well as some options like favouriting the track, looping it or combining it with music from the sleep music library. Additionally users are given recommended tracks to continue exploring the app and its sleep tracks.

Play Screens

After the user plays the track they are brought to a lock screen takeover featuring the imagery, title and again the options to favourite, loop or combine with music. The lock screen takeover allows users to quickly stop the track after waking up instead of having to unlock the phone, navigate to the app and stop the track within the app, reducing number of clicks to stop to just one.
